UroLift is a minimally invasive treatment for an enlarged prostate (BPH) that takes a mechanical approach. Rather than cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue, it uses small permanent implants to lift and hold the enlarged tissue out of the way — opening the channel that urine flows through.
The implants are placed during a short in-office procedure. Because no tissue is cut or destroyed, many men experience rapid symptom relief and a quick return to normal activity.
UroLift does not cut or remove tissue, so it generally preserves sexual function. Its drawback is durability: in Dr. Shusterman's experience symptoms often return, even in men with smaller prostates, which is why he now rarely recommends it.
UroLift was designed for men with smaller prostates, about 40 grams or less, and no obstructing middle lobe. Because symptoms often return in his experience, Dr. Shusterman now usually recommends PAE first, with Rezūm as the alternative.
